WASHINGTON The US Senate will defer its work on repealing and replacing Obamacare as senior lawmaker John McCain recovers from surgery to remove a blood clot above his eye, the chamber's Republican leader said. Despite the fact that providing a social safety net was practical, cost-effective and served the public interest, it's not in line with the GOP's goal of a smaller federal government and lower taxes.

The Senate is once again delaying its vote on the controversial effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act while Sen. "On the advice of his doctors, Senator McCain will be recovering in Arizona next week".

After facing an outcry, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell increased that to $45 billion.

"Senator McCain received excellent treatment at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, and appreciates the tremendous professionalism and care by its doctors and staff. He is in good spirits and recovering comfortably at home with his family".

"There's nothing in there that would cause a dramatic difference in the estimated number of people expected to lose health insurance coverage", says Katherine Hempstead, a senior adviser who works on health insurance and health policy issues at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

"I think it's absolutely wrong", Paul said of the bill.

The GOP was set to vote on the BCRA this week until McCain's visit to the doctor.

President Donald Trump has insisted McConnell has got to "pull it off" and get the votes necessary for passage. "They are really the working poor in our state that don't quite qualify for Medicaid, and both bills completely defund Minnesota Care - which is about 88 percent federally funded this year, a $500 million program". While Republicans held hearings on alternatives to Obamacare in the past, the Senate Republicans have not held a single hearing on their legislation this session. "I'm still for all of those and I think those could be part of clean repeal..."

McCain is in Arizona after having a blood clot removed from above his left eye. "Tissue pathology reports are pending within the next several days". He also wished a speedy recovery for McCain.

McCain is a three-time survivor of melanoma. Perhaps the extra time before the vote will be put to good use as the White House develops a full court press lobbying campaign to convince the moderates that a "no" vote will deep six the rest of his agenda, including tax reform.
